Our Impact
The need in Peñasco is real and asking for help isn’t easy.

Every year during December, January, and February, the economic impact of seasonal job layoffs in Puerto Peñasco creates wide spread food insecurity. And couple this with unpredictable events like the Pandemic, border closings, and slowing tourism occurring simultaneously, and all hands are on deck with neighbors helping neighbors finding ways to make it through tough times.

Your $20 contribution to Empty Bowls has the power to help ensure that there is food on the table for Peñasco children, families, and seniors IMMEDIATELY after the event with 100% of the proceeds going directly to local food purchase and distribution.

In February of 2024, an inaugural event was hosted by The Turquoise Door in San Miguel Plaza to introduce the Empty Bowls concept to the community and to provide direct relief for an immediate need during a prolonged border closing. The Empty Bowls Volunteers are endeavoring to hold this event annually, ahead of the known needs in the community, with November 30,2024 being The First Annual Event.
